How’s Your Speed?
This quick test will estimate the speed of your internet connection. Speed is measured in megabits per second (Mbps). The FCC defines broadband internet as at least 25 Mbps for downloads and 3 Mbps for uploads.
“Download speed” is how fast you can receive your incoming data. This relates to how quickly your device loads websites, e-mail, and streams media. The U.S. average is about 15.3 Mbps.
“Upload speed” is how fast you can send outgoing data. This is important for the many interactive applications that require your device to both send and receive data.
You should know: The company that provides this test also tracks some data about you. If that’s a concern for you, don’t use it.
